U of M Student Killed In An Unusual Detroit Car Accident That Involved Semi-Truck

Ashley Thomas, a University of Michigan student, was killed in a Detroit car accident that occurred on M-39.  The semi-truck-car accident took place on Friday, October 23rd.  According to police, the axle of a gas tanker driving in the opposite direction of Thomas broke, detaching dual affixed tires that struck a semi-truck and flew off the truck striking Ashley Thomas’ vehicle.  Tragically, the U of M student was pronounced dead at the scene. Sloan Petroleum Transportation owned the semi-truck and could face charges depending on the outcome of the investigation that is being done by the Michigan State Police.

I am very sorry to hear about this tragic accident. My condolensces go out to the family of the deceased victim.

Our Michigan car accident lawyers advise victims of their legal rights. For this type of Michigan accident, the family members of the deceased victim may be able to make a claim for Survivor Loss Benefits. This can include payment of funeral expenses, lost wages, and loss of other services.

Also, the family members of the deceased may have a claim for a Michigan wrongful death lawsuit against the driver and the owner of the semi-truck if police determine was negligent.  At the very least, the family members should contact a lawyer to find out their legal rights.
